Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

Imagine visiting a website only to find you can’t navigate the menu, read the text, or understand the content. It’s frustrating. Not just for the user but also for the business owner who has spent money on a site that isn’t connecting with their audience.

You might not even realise you’ve neglected accessibility…

Website accessibility creates a more seamless experience for everyone, regardless of their ability. It’s about a people-first approach, which is integral to creating helpful content and providing a great user experience.

There are more than 5 million people in Australia with disabilities. So if your website doesn’t accommodate, you’re missing out on reaching a wider group of people.

Living with a disability already comes with enough challenges. I know because I have an ultra-rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Severe Scoliosis and Epilepsy. With many different types of disabilities and limitations, creating a website that caters to your audience is essential.

You must provide helpful and engaging web copy to reach a broader market and keep the Google Gods happy. And what’s more valuable than content everyone can access and read?

Understanding Website Accessibility

Website accessibility allows everyone to understand, navigate, and engage with your content, features, products and services.

The Disability Discrimination Act mandates that websites be designed and developed for people with disabilities.

Making your site accessible is also an intelligent business strategy.

It enhances user-friendliness across different devices, improves the reading experience, and simplifies navigation. This leads to better results from web forms and call-to-action buttons, boosts SEO, and shows social responsibility.

Where Do Most Websites Go Wrong?

The most common accessibility failures are:

Missing image alt-tags

Empty or non-descriptive links and buttons

Low colour contrast

Missing form input labels

Learn how to implement web accessibility with these tips.

1. Inclusive Web Design and Content

Every website needs an accessible design and readable content. Ensure your site is fully responsive with mobile and tablet optimisation, touch-friendly navigation, and a logical content structure.

When your web design and content are robust, they’re developed to be compatible with different browsers, devices, screen sizes, and assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Quick Wins:

Clear HTML code for efficient interpretation.

Simple site navigation

Easy-to-understand content with heading tags.

Logical layout

Clearly marked buttons and links

Implement responsive design

Add labels to form fields

Use breadcrumbs to make your site keyboard-friendly

Avoid seizure-triggering animations

Use high-quality images, videos, and icons

Add a linkable table of contents to blog content

Balance aesthetics and accessibility

2. Ditch the Fluff

Digestible content is essential for all website visitors. Replace technical jargon with clear, concise language. Use simple sentences and proper headings to break up large blocks of text.

Meet your audience’s search intent to keep your copy on track. Writing for search intent avoids unnecessary content and filling web copy with fluff.

3. Accessible Shopping Solutions

Website accessibility standards outline the importance of accessibility in e-commerce. Make sure you comply by providing an approachable shopping experience.

Quick Wins:

Create descriptive, accessible product descriptions

Provide an easy-to-use checkout process with clear instructions and error messages

Use accessible payment getaways that support keyboard navigation and screen readers

Leverage AI-powered personal shoppers

4. Include Descriptive Alt Text and Links

One of the easiest ways to apply web accessibility is through descriptive text. Alt-txt (alternative text) appears when someone uses a screen reader and cannot view the image. It helps the visually impaired, search engines understand what the image is about, and users when images aren’t loading.

Alt-text and text for links and anchors are important for conveying meaning. Use words that describe what the image or content is about when you click a link or button. All images, links, buttons and pages must have descriptive titles.

For example; instead of ‘Read Now’ for the text on a call-to-action button, use ‘Explore Copywriting Services’. This is more meaningful and gives an accurate overview of what the user will find in the linked content.

5. Enable Hands-Free Navigation with Smart Voice Technology

Spoken commands provide a natural way to navigate and access information. Voice recognition lets users interact with devices and websites via voice search, screen readers, and other tools.

It’s a convenient tool for busy multitaskers and people with mobility disabilities.

Quick Wins:

Use long-tail, location-specific keywords and a conversational tone. This will optimise your website for voice search

Apply schema and structured data markup

Add a well-organised FAQ page to your site (or update your existing page)

Use bullet points for short, concise answers to optimise for featured snippets

6. Caption Videos

Transcripts and captions for video and audio are an easy way to apply website accessibility. Assistive technology relies on AI to read transcriptions out loud, which is helpful for anyone with hearing impairments or people wanting to review insights following a live meeting.

AI-powered captioning is a good accessibility feature to use. As AI tools become more accurate, you can have real-time transcriptions for video, audio, live streams and webinars, which increases engagement with everyone in your audience.

An example of Interprefy, a tool that offers live closed captions.

7. How to Implement Web Accessibility

Your business doesn’t need to be compatible with every tool, technology or web accessibility trend. But prioritising website accessibility for the disabled and your audience is a must.

In a world overloaded with digital consumption, why make it any harder to access valuable content?

Make sure you:

Test for web accessibility and usability

Commit to continuous improvement

Follow website accessibility standards and best practices

Improving website accessibility is everyone’s responsibility. This includes the business owner, web designer, developer, SEO specialist and creative copywriter.

Estimated reading time: 9.5 minutes

The perfect landing page is a powerful tool. When created thoughtfully, it propels your business, generates quality leads and engages and converts an active audience. Your WordPress landing pages are the anchors in paid and organic marketing that can amplify your overall return on investment.

How well you design your landing page is crucial for the success of your Perth business.

If you want your content to rock and your sales to soar, your landing page must be engaging and persuasive with high-converting elements. There’s no point in wasting time and resources on a lazy page that looks good but doesn’t perform. That’s why working with an SEO content writer and WordPress web designer is fundamental in taking your site to the next level.

Here are some tips for structuring your landing page for products and local services.

What is a WordPress Landing Page?

Landing pages are single-page websites built for a specific purpose.

Similar to your homepage, landing pages are often the first experience visitors have with your site. Users typically find a landing page by clicking on an ad, email campaign or social media post.

These webpages are a focused marketing tool to capture leads and entice prospects to become customers or clients. You can achieve this by exchanging something of value with users, such as an eBook or webinar signup, in return for their basic contact information. By offering something relating to your industry and rewarding users with interesting content, they’re more likely to trust your brand and be pulled further into the customer funnel.

WordPress landing pages must be highly targeted and well-crafted to gain a visitor’s data, with conversion optimisation to kick your marketing campaigns into gear.

Let’s dive deeper.

1. Set Your Focus CTA

Unlike a homepage with multiple calls to actions (CTAs), a landing page has a single, focused CTA that encourages visitors to take a specific action. When clicked, this CTA button takes them to the next (and often final) step, converting them to a lead or customer.

Set your focus CTA by first defining your goal.

Are you looking to generate leads, promote a new product or register users for an event? Your CTA should give visitors a reason to click. For instance, subscribe to your newsletter, buy your product or service, sign up for your event or install your app.

The strongest CTAs are a strategic combination of creative copy and design. Think:

Goal-focused

Specific and concise

Benefits-focused

Optimised for performance

Well-placed in a prominent spot with contrasting colours to maximise visibility

Example #1

Take a look at this example from Mondaydotcom:

The ad popped up in my social media feed. Immediately their CTA grabs you.

Who doesn’t want to work smarter? Especially when 180k+ others already are! So I clicked on ‘Sign Up’ to see what it was all about.

It took me to their landing page where their primary CTA caught my eye.

There’s nothing more frustrating than signing up for a free trial and being forced to add your credit card details. You might not be ready to buy or use long-term yet, let alone hand over this information – and these guys understand.

Using the words ‘free forever‘ and ‘no credit card‘ makes it easy to click ‘get started‘.

2. Target Specific Demographics

WordPress landing pages can be tailored to target specific demographic groups in Perth. This creates a laser-focused approach for personalising user experience and boosting conversions while helping you craft content most relevant to your audience.

For instance, if you’re targeting tourists visiting Western Australia, include information about local hotspots or activities. If you’re targeting the Perth business community, include information about networking events or business resources your audience will find practical. You could create specialised deals on local attractions for tourists, or offer discounts on networking events and brand development courses for Perth businesses.

This type of targeted information is gold for motivating users to act.

Make sure you use appropriate colours, images and language that resonates with your audience. Without creating an instant connection, it’s impossible to offer relevant deals or promotions that capture their attention and provide enough value for them to hand over their contact details.

3. Optimise for Local SEO

A WordPress landing page will throw cash down the drain if you don’t optimise it for SEO.

Search Engine Optimisation keeps your content in focus by providing a vital blueprint that helps your audience find the information they’re looking for. SEO gives your page staying power and increases its online visibility, the same way it would for your homepage or a blog article.

Optimise your landing page by:

Performing keyword and competitor research to determine what search terms your audience is likely using

Including the location name with keywords ie: my local branded keyword is ‘The Little Typewriter Perth’ and for services, I use search terms such as ‘Perth Copywriter’ and ‘SEO Content Writer Perth’

Adding local references in the meta title and description

Interactive elements to encourage the user to ask questions, subscribe or purchase

Visual elements to attract attention, but keep it simple

5. Simplify Your WordPress Design and Copy

The most effective landing pages are straightforward and distraction-free, quickly and clearly pointing users to your CTA. And it’ll work best if it stands alone.

6. Write Location-Specific Content about Your Perth Business

Publish strategic and conversion-driven content distinct to your local area. For your WordPress landing page to really hit the sweet spot, location-specific content must connect with your audience and meet what’s significant to them.

What information are they looking for? And what copy corresponds with their search intent? Your landing page copy should provide the solution.

Make your copy:

Easily skimmable with large chunks of text broken up

Keyword-focused and intent-specific

Part of your local SEO strategy

Persuasive and engaging

7. Leverage Local Trust Factors

Claim ownership of your Google My Business profile and use it to add reviews to your landing page. Local ratings play a pivotal role in the success of your site. By sharing reviews and testimonials, and embedding a Google map with your location or the areas you service, you can increase conversion and someone’s trust in your business.

Especially if they’re not familiar with your brand, leveraging these trust factors helps them choose to engage with you.

8. Drive Action Now, Not Later

Create a sense of urgency to convert users before you lose them. You can do this through a smart CTA, benefit-driven headlines and location-specific content that guides your audience seamlessly through the buyer’s journey.

When you’re ready to launch your Perth website, test variants for page copy, headlines and CTAs before determining what works best.

4 Details Not to Forget

Estimated reading time: 9.7 minutes

ChatGPT has taken the digital world by storm and more businesses are using AI for automating tasks and shrinking creative exhaustion. For good reason too. With burnout causing a not-so-silent crisis, work and life demands have become too demanding for most.

As a small business owner and SEO content writer, I get it.

Which is why, like any smart copywriter, I’ve explored and experimented with ChatGPT content.

Here’s what I learnt.

Despite the hype around ChatGPT articles, it isn’t the holy grail to your content woes. Sure, it can be a companion, but AI-generated content cannot replace SEO articles – and nothing beats that human touch for creating authentic connections with your audience. While ChatGPT is helpful as a foundation, no one should rely solely on AI tools to create content. Especially if you want to provide real value.

Still, there’s a place for ChatGPT if you know how to use it intelligently.

More importantly, those who embrace the ever-changing digital landscape must understand what good content writing is and how it works for such tools to be successful.

This article can teach you creative ways to combine ChatGPT with human skill. It’s for educating business owners on the best strategies and what to be aware of.

Understanding ChatGPT

But first, what is this ChatGPT that’s dominating headlines?

Open AI’s ChatGPT is a powerful deep-learning tool that provides answers in seconds. It uses a Language Learning Model (LLM) to understand the intricate relationships between words and information and sources responses from an extensive dataset of websites, online books and journals.

You can ask the computer bot questions and converse with it like a person. Then it regurgitates content and answers into new prose. Similar to responses from a Google search, but much faster and without citing sources.

Of course, taboo subjects are off limits, such as trying to overthrow the government and illegal activities. There are also questions ChatGPT won’t answer.

Let’s dig into how I’m harnessing ChatGPT for SEO articles.

1. Eliminate Procrastination

One way I’ve been using the AI tool is to amplify productivity. For most creatives, this means eliminating procrastination areas.

Those deep rabbit holes we sometimes get stuck in.

Procrastination is something most writers and business owners face. Quotes from avid creatives remind us that writing is 90% procrastination, and pie graphs poke fun at the writing process. A chunk of time gets spent staring blankly at the wall, binge-snacking and random Internet surfing – a tidal wave away from productive research.

I know because I can be guilty of it too.

With ChatGPT, you have a procrastination killer. It can be a handy helper for drafting article structure and sub-headings, and gives you a blueprint to work from.

For example: I asked ChatGPT to suggest subheadings for this piece. Although I had already mapped the points, it’s a good way to find new angles or ideas you might not have thought about.

Fire up Your Creative Synapses

ChatGPT is a catalyst for fast idea generation. It can be the perfect tool for when inspiration isn’t striking.

While I prefer picking up a book and disconnecting for 20 minutes to fire up my creative synapses (as Stephen King does), client deadlines often take priority. For those times – or to get your juices flowing – use ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas.

The best way to do this is by starting a conversation.

Just as you would brief a copywriter, ChatGPT needs detail and precise objectives to generate worthy ideas, topics and research.

With the right person behind it, ChatGPT can revolutionise your research game. Use it as a researcher for:

Brainstorming blog topic ideas

Recommending headlines

Industry research

Exploring the initial points for SEO articles

Finding potential pain points linked to your target customer

There needs to be a partnership between a qualified writer and ChatGPT to make this relationship work for quality SEO content. A copywriter can refine and expand the data for your brand voice, goals and audience. Then uses their expertise to bring it to life and add vital SEO copywriting elements.

Additionally, you want an industry expert who knows your niche and understands the importance of value-added content that connects and converts.

Because that’s something ChatGPT articles can’t do.

You can use the AI tool as a launchpad for creating more engaging ideas. But it’s only a dirty draft with serious limitations. These include:

Privacy and plagiarism: Generated content is paraphrased from existing content without proper attribution

Superficial and soulless: Robotic content, limited creative thinking and zero personal experience and emotional intelligence

Stifles creativity: Over-dependence on AI technology can lead to less collaboration and creativity, steering content away from that vital human touch

Poor quality: Google rewards high-quality, people-first content which AI content can’t always produce. If it’s not helpful and reliable, your content will be devalued

Lack of experience and personalisation: Content must show Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness to build trust and credibility with your audience

Lack of search engine optimisation: ChatGPT lacks the understanding and insights a human SEO copywriter or specialist has. What’s more, it can’t provide essential data on website traffic, rankings and conversions

Lack of research and comprehension: Yes, it’s a research tool but you still need to understand your audience and the different ways of communicating with them first. Research for your messaging is a step you can’t skip

Lacks real-time data: Its knowledge cut-off date is September 2021 making ChatGPT ineffective for recent research and statistics

I’ve also been using the AI tool to make space for fresh ideas by eliminating clichéd and obvious concepts. I stole this great idea from Tom Roach, an expert in marketing and branding.

[Source]

2. Discover Seed Keywords and Phrases

ChatGPT can assist with keyword research by suggesting relevant search terms to expand your list. Tell it your topic, brief it on your business and target audience, and ask for associated keywords and phrases.

It’ll spit out ideas in seconds – but I wouldn’t be using it solely for keyword research.

Think of ChatGPT as an alternative to Google’s Keyword Planner. You still need other platforms like Semrush or UberSuggest for reviewing the raw data, and it doesn’t replace the skills of an SEO copywriter for finding the most appropriate search terms and using them in your content.

The thing about keyword tools such as ChatGPT, Yoast, Ubersuggest and Semrush is they’re simply tools. They make our jobs easier but you need human expertise for the final decision. More importantly, you need a creative copywriter who knows how to find ranking keywords and turn them into relatable content that’s unique and better than what’s ranking in the first spots.

While this trick doesn’t replace the skills of an SEO pro, it can give you a starting point. But it won’t provide information on search volume, intent, SERP features or keyword difficulty, which are vital for keyword research.

ChatGPT SEO example:

Ideally, ChatGPT could’ve recommended location-specific search terms since Perth and Australia are in the brief.

The below example provides a better response. I like how it recognised you need additional tools for in-depth data and mentioned niche-related keywords, however, this was only after I regenerated the response.

Hot Tip: Google any keyword ideas you get from ChatGPT to see what content is ranking, identify gaps, and better understand the search intent. You should never rely on ChatGPT for your SEO strategy either.

3. Gather Helpful Information

People want helpful content that’s written by humans for humans. If your content doesn’t prove experience and meet the E-E-A-T standards, then it won’t be deemed helpful by your audience and Google. Consequently, it’ll be devalued and dropped in the search rankings.

Creating helpful content starts with gathering essential information. While you shouldn’t use AI tools to write your web copy and blogs, ChatGPT can streamline how you collect data. This makes your day more productive and provides a platform for fleshing out content and adding copywriting expertise.

For example: Recently I was writing an article for my local winery client. They wanted a piece on annual organic audits to show their customers why certified standards and inspections are important.

I knew I needed more information from my client to begin.

Usually I’d spend 15-20 minutes researching potential topics and angles and mapping points to include. Instead this time, I called on ChatGPT.

I had an idea of the points to highlight and used this to prompt ChatGPT. This is what it said:

I wasn’t going to get AI tools to write the content – ChatGPT isn’t an article writer. But it enabled me to send the right questions to my client and uncover the information I needed for mapping and writing the piece. By doing so, I saved 20 minutes in research.

The result was a unique blog tailored to their winery and vineyard, and why these audits matter to their products and customers.

Expert Tips for Effective ChatGPT Content

Writing SEO content that provides value demands a certain level of skill, experience and creativity – something AI tools aren’t yet equipped with. Yet there are ways to embrace the tool.

Make sure you:

Add ‘experience’ elements – the first E in E-E-A-T – professional experience and human experience

Master the art of writing good ChatGPT prompts

Double-check suggested article titles and topics haven’t been used before

Provide specific instructions and always refine

Use words like ‘expand’ to delve deeper into a point or topic

Fact-check information for accuracy and plagiarism

Review ChatGPT SEO articles for sensual experience – sights, touches, tastes and smells breathe more humanity into content

Enhance the content ie: visuals, quotes, statistics and internal linking to related articles

Download the ChatGPT Chrome extension

Create content machines can’t replicate

The Takeaway

AI is already starting to fill the Internet with noise, ultimately making quality human-created content more valuable.

Still, the question remains. Will AI tools like ChatGPT replace creative copywriters?

It depends on your standards.

Canva didn’t replace graphic designers and neither will AI for copywriters and SEO specialists.

But there’s no use denying the technology – it’s already here. Rather than treating AI as a replacement for human expertise though, use it as a tool. Supplement your productivity and accelerate how you work.

ChatGPT isn’t an SEO article writer. It’s an assistant – and a limited one at that. And it doesn’t excuse you from working on the real foundation of great content writing: listening, empathy and connection.

First impressions last. And when people search for your business on Google, chances are, the results they’ll see will leave a lasting impression on them.

If you’re looking to leave a positive impression on your customers, harnessing the power of Google My Business (GMB) can make you trustworthy and credible – which could ultimately lead to meaningful conversions. But before we get into how it enhances your brand image, let’s explore what Google My Business has to offer.

What Is Google My Business?

Google My Business is a free online tool that businesses use to manage their online presence. In a world where most businesses have made the transition to online, this kind of tool can easily help grow your brand.

We all know how Google has different services – from Google Search to Google Maps – and Google My Business can help you manage your business across these platforms.

Google My Business also allows business owners to respond to reviews and add photos or videos that represent their organisation. It’s particularly beneficial to small businesses where a simple Google search can yield a GMB listing. It benefits everyone – from local wineries and restaurant owners to real estate administrators and sustainable e-commerce businesses. This makes it easier for customers to engage with you.

How Google My Business Enhances Your Brand Image

Now we’ve covered the basics of GMB, we’ll go into detail on how it enhances your brand image. Here’s how:

Complete Your Profile

Place yourself in the shoes of your customers. No one wants to search for a business only to be left in the dark. No contact information, no address, no reviews – when customers don’t see this information, expect that you’ve effectively lost their interest. They’re not going to dig deeper into your company. Instead, they might even consider your competitors!

Completing your profile is the crucial first step in using GMB. Your business name, address, operating hours, phone number, and website – these are all information that you must complete to show that your business upholds transparency.

Accurate and Consistent Information

To establish your brand as trustworthy, be sure that you provide accurate and consistent information across all platforms. That means that what you placed in your GMB listing must reflect on your social media pages, too.

Displaying inconsistent information will not only confuse your customers but also lead them to believe that your business is unprofessional. Hence, keeping your information up-to-date across all platforms is essential to maintaining a positive brand image.

Engaging Photos and Videos

Try to spice things up a bit by adding pictures and videos. Not only is it more eye-catching, but potential customers will also have a glimpse of what your business is all about. For instance, if you own a restaurant, customers can see the interiors and exteriors of your business.

It helps to post professional photos as this leaves a positive impression on your customers – so don’t let this opportunity go to showcase your business in a good light.

Regular Updates

Be sure to update your GMB listing regularly. For example, if a holiday is coming up, don’t forget to update your special operating hours. You don’t want disappointed customers ending up in your establishment only to find out that it’s already closed.

Additionally, you can also use Google My Business to promote your latest events, blog articles or new services and products. That way, you can keep them informed about the latest happenings in your business.

Manage and Respond to Reviews

Reviews can make or break your brand. While a positive review can significantly enhance your brand image, the converse is true for negative ones. At the end of the day, what matters is your response to this. Whether it’s positive or negative feedback, it’s crucial to respond to customer reviews on Google My Business to show that you value customer feedback. This further establishes trust and credibility in the long run.

Utilise the Q&A Feature

Google won’t be able to answer all your potential customers’ questions. For example, they might want to ask about certain features of your product that only you can answer. To solve their queries, it’s best to participate in this section. By actively doing so, you show that your business is committed to customer service.

Use GMB Messaging

Keeping your socials open is generally a good idea to connect with your customers on a more personal level. Similarly, it’s just as important to connect with your customers on Google My Business.

With its free messaging tool, you can respond to your customer’s concerns in real time, straight from your listing. This improves your brand image and streamlines your communication process.

In Conclusion

A well-optimised Google My Business profile is key to creating and maintaining a positive brand image. By providing accurate information, engaging with eye-catching media, and leveraging the other features that GMB has to offer, you can cultivate a positive brand image.

With most businesses making the transition to everything digital, it seems that Google My Business is now an essential, rather than a nice-to-have.

If you want your business to grow and your content to perform, then your website needs to tick a number of boxes. One of those boxes is keywords.

Blog keywords (or keyphrases or search terms) are golden tickets for creating content that meets your audience’s search intent. Meaning, content that resonates with the people you want to do business with and makes them feel heard.

But unless you know what they’re searching for, you’re planning your content blindly. And that’s never a smart move.

Keyword research is complex and involves identifying, analysing and mapping appropriate search terms for your blog and web copy. In doing so, you improve your search engine rankings and drive more targeted organic traffic to your site. People you can turn into happy clients and customers.

Benefits of Keyword Research

Planning without research is easy to do when you’re a business owner.

You’re strapped for time, zapped of creative energy and busy with tasks that drain your tank dry. Maybe you think of a blog idea – and it’s good, so you write and publish away with no real plan.

It’s the same story for many people.

Unfortunately, it’s not effective.

Content relies on keyword research like our lungs need air to breathe. It’s an essential piece of the puzzle for increasing your online visibility, amplifying user experience and pushing engagement to new heights. All of which contribute to being an authority in your industry and improving brand awareness.

If you want potential customers to find your website – whether it’s your blog articles, a local service or an e-commerce site, you must develop a content strategy to help them find you. That’s where keyword research comes in.

Strategic keyword research allows you to:

Align and amplify your content marketing strategy

Find new, valuable topics to write about

Target specific customer problems and provide solutions

Get found by the right people

Optimise your content for users and search engines, pleasing both parties

Create articles that reflect what interests your audience

Without the crucial information that comes from keyword research, you have no clear path for mapping and creating content to your audience’s needs. Therefore it’s likely a waste of time, creative energy, money and resources.

Examples of Keywords and Keyphrases

Keywords are concepts and themes that define the subject matter of your business, industry and the products or services you offer. They’re the words and phrases users type into search engines to find what they’re searching for online. That’s why keywords in blogs and web copy is essential.

For example, if you’re looking for someone experienced to write your content, you might type ‘seo copywriter perth’ into the search engine.

Or maybe you want to know ‘how much an Australian copywriter charges’.

In these examples, you’re likely looking to engage a local copywriter or creative content writer – this is an informational search intent. You have a specific question or want to know more about the topic.

Look what pops up:

With this valuable data, you can identify content gaps and craft useful articles or web pages around these search terms, ensuring you satisfy and solve your audience’s search intent.

Imagine the content you can create when you tap into this information.

Use Blog Keywords to Answer Your Users’ Questions

When you publish fresh, helpful blog content, you position your website as a relevant answer to your customer’s questions.

How?

By providing accurate and authentic explanations for the questions they’re seeking, with the short and long-tail keywords they’re using.

For your content to offer real value and earn trust, use blog articles to debunk misinformation and myths and educate prospects. This way, you’ll have a plethora of useful resources they can connect with, and send to your customers for more understanding about a specific topic or problem.

Drive traffic with blog articles that answer questions by:

Optimising for humans and Google

Using a mix of short and long-tail keywords, as well as question keywords ie: ‘why blogs are important’, ‘what is copywriting for seo’ or ‘how much does a website cost in australia’

Turning FAQs into articles

Building a blog strategy with commonly asked questions relating to your target keywords

Finding relevant questions via tools such as Google Search Console, Ubersuggest, Answer the Public and SemRush

Communicate and Connect with Your Audience (and Google)

High-quality, optimised blog content is one of the most effective ways of connecting with your audience. When you use the right blog keywords, you also communicate to search engines that your content is a relevant match.

By communicating the information users want or need, they keep coming back to your site for more. It also helps get them over the line to make a sale, use your services or engage with your business.

This is only productive when the right people find your blog articles. And this relies on keyword research and deep diving into your audience to target content for them, while telling Google your articles are answering the question users ask.

Create Helpful Blog Content

If you’re not creating useful content designed to help your audience, adding all the right blog keywords won’t help. After all, great content is about people first and Google second.

Smart SEO copywriters use keyword research to find what topics will help your audience and what phrases to include while writing. But for your content to be deemed helpful, it needs to focus on the ultimate goal and solve their problems. This is what I do for my clients.

The Bottom Line

Writing blog content and web copy is more than just finding the right words. You need to know what users are searching for otherwise, your target audience will struggle to find and engage with your content. So make a content plan that creates connections with website visitors, grows leads and generates more engagement – and ensure it’s backed up by adequate research.

Estimated reading time: 6.8 minutes

How strong is your online presence?

Is your business ranking on the first three pages for your desired keyphrases? Does your website engage your users? Is your content meeting your audience’s search intent?

If you’re unsure or the answer is ‘no’, it’s time to make some changes.

The problem with cutting corners on the above is a direct, negative impact on your search engine rankings. Your brand starts to drop off people’s radar, your organic web traffic diminishes and your supply of quality leads crumbles.

It’s not a great place to be.

Fortunately, there’s more you can do to amplify your digital presence and create a steady flow of website traffic.

Let me show you.

1. Start with Strategic Keyword Research

Keyword research is the pinnacle of every successful online marketing strategy. If you don’t do it first, or you start it too late, you’re working blind with your website content – and that won’t bring results.

The process involves identifying, analysing and mapping appropriate search terms for your copy. These search terms (keywords and keyphrases) must match topics and themes relevant to your business, industry and product/service. This way, you improve your search engine ranking and drive more targeted organic traffic to your website.

Effective keyword research focuses on:

Relevant keywords aligned with your content strategy – relevant to your brand, audience and content, and reflecting the topics your users are interested in

High search volume terms

A mix of short and long-tail keywords

Keyword difficulty, which will determine how hard it’ll be to rank for a particular term

Google Analytics – what keywords are driving traffic to your website and which ones need to be adjusted or replaced?

Expert Tip: Understanding the intent behind a user’s search is crucial for effective keyword research. This allows you to align your content with 4 types of search intent categories.

When choosing keywords and writing content, always consider what your users are searching for and what their end goal is, and never over-optimise! Keywords should be naturally fitted into your web copy and articles, not stuffed like your Christmas roast.

2. Grow Your Brand with Blog Management

Now that you’re armed with the words and phrases your audience is using, you can create helpful blog content around them.

There are some serious SEO benefits to blogs. For consistency, invest in a blog management service to ensure your content engages and converts your audience. Creative blog writers, such as myself, craft audience-specific content that targets your keywords and builds your organic search traffic. Personality-filled words written for the people you want to attract.

Expert Tip: Content marketing is crucial for boosting your search rankings. Start with 2 blog articles a month and re-assess your content topics and keywords every 3 to 6 months. Review your web copy every 6 to 12 months to ensure it’s aligned with your brand, audience and goals.

3. Apply SEO Best Practices

Want to rank higher on Google?

Then you need to invest in SEO.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is key to getting found online. With a strong plan in place – one that applies best practices and prioritises the end user, you can increase the quality and quantity of organic traffic to your website.

There are on-page and off-page factors to consider.

On-page optimisation involves the structure, navigation and technical aspects affecting the user experience of your site, while off-page optimisation is the process of building quality backlinks from authoritative websites to your own. Both rely on having a consistent flow of valuable content relevant to your audience.

SEO needs a long-term strategy with ongoing effort and optimisation – but the benefits are worth it.

Expert Tip: There are many best practices to implement on your site if you want it to perform. Because SEO covers a broad range of factors, consider working with an SEO specialist and/or SEO copywriter to increase your organic web traffic.

Don’t forget local SEO either, and take advantage of your free Google My Business and Bing listings.

4. Update Existing Content

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel with content every time.

In fact, giving your existing web copy and blog content a refresh is a game-changer for boosting search engine rankings.

Why?

Because as new information becomes available, some content becomes old and stops performing. Your content, as well as the metadata and the images and links in it, need to stay relevant to your audience and keep up with the latest data.

In doing so, you can create an instant lift in its performance and increase the click-through rate of your site.

Make sure to:

Start with a content audit to see what content needs a refresh

Identify content gaps to fill

Update all relevant parts of your content ie: metadata, call-to-actions, target keywords, headings, links and statistics

Review the types of resources you have linked out to and swap with newer, better information

Expert Tip: It’s no secret that people (and Google) love fresh content – so include a content revive in your strategy to double your traffic. When updating articles check for broken links, speller and grammar errors and image alt-tags. Ensure old content is written to meet new EEAT and YMYL criteria too.

AI tools like ChatGPT are fuelling the frenzy around AI writing. But if you don't want your site to be flagged by Google and end up in digital landfill, avoid damaging your brand with these tips.

The post Should You Use AI for Creating Brilliant, More Efficient Content? appeared first on the little typewriter.

With AI tools like ChatGPT and Bard sweeping the globe, business owners are considering their options for writing more efficient content. Of course, it makes sense. Copywriting is hard work. It takes investment and creative energy, and planning content on a regular basis is time-consuming and costly.

That’s also fueling the frenzy around AI writing.

Everyone wants more for less. But does that mean you should cut corners?

Definitely not.

Shortcutting the process won’t achieve high-quality work.

If you want content that connects and converts, you need the appropriate drivers behind it: human emotion, creativity and strategic thinking.

The technology of AI is spectacular and intelligent, but as with any digital tool, there are limitations. AI-generated content cannot replace SEO copy and the creative content it generates remains superficial and soulless. What’s more, AI tools cannot replace authentic human emotion (yet).

Before we dive deeper, let’s consider the Three Laws of Robotics.

These rules were developed in 1942 by sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov to protect humans from androids by restricting robot behaviour and keeping AI ethical.

A robot may not injure a human or, through inaction, allow a human to come to harm

A robot must obey the orders given by humans except where such orders would conflict with the First Law

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws

Asimov envisioned the problem we face today, as sci-fi often does, and created a principle for safe, compliant and robust robots.

More than 80 years later, the fundamentals have not changed, just evolved. Here’s how to stop bots from harming you or your business when considering AI tools.

Key Points:

Users want helpful content that’s written by humans, for humans

AI should be used as a foundation, not the final (or only) solution

100% AI-written content is ‘rubbish’ for SEO and will be flagged by Google

AI maximises productivity and streamlines repetitive tasks, but AI content lacks the key drivers for creating emotional connections

Where Creative Copywriters Trump AI

You don’t need me to tell you that human emotions and connections are integral to content marketing. I know I bang on about the importance of creating connections, but you need them if you want your content to perform.

So if you’re not getting the results you want from your web copy (or copywriter), you’ll look for alternatives. Cue robots and AI for business.

Great SEO copy performs and actively engages an audience. It provides value and creates an emotional connection, one that’s often built through the power of stories.

While AI is a smart tool to aid the process, no matter how good it is at churning out copy, those words aren’t the best words for your audience.

Why?

Users demand audience-specific content tailored to their needs, wants and search intent —content that’s written by humans, for humans.

The best website copy is not superficial. You don’t simply choose keyphrases and write optimised copy around them either. Good SEO copywriting, like any form of marketing, sprouts from strategic thinking, originality and the ability to creatively connect dots in ways we haven’t seen from AI tools like ChatGPT.

That doesn’t mean AI shouldn’t be a valuable part of your toolkit though. There are benefits, especially if you want to maximise productivity and streamline repetitive and mundane tasks.

When used logically, AI tools can help create better content. But they should be used as an assistant, not an outsourcing solution.

Is Your Content Experienced?

ChatGPT opposes everything Google asks for in user-friendly content; web copy that demonstrates Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness. Without meeting these signals, you leave your audience unsatisfied and run the risk of Google devaluing your content.

Since AI-written copy lacks E-E-A-T credentials, quality raters (and users) will struggle to trust content that doesn’t showcase the expertise of the writer and their years of experience.

Imagine what that lack of trust and credibility could do to your brand.

Google’s Helpful Content algorithm is also something to factor in, which rewards content that gives readers a satisfying experience. The most recent update highlights that content must be written by people, for people to be deemed helpful. After all, it’s content from humans that provides a more cohesive and satisfying approach to creative copywriting and SEO.

Without the experience or interpersonal understanding of your business, how can AI articulate why customers should choose you, or most importantly, why they should trust your brand? You need more than just a bot to handle your strategy.

Copywriters and business owners cannot rely solely on AI tools for web copy, doing so is irresponsible and detrimental to your brand.

If you want to spice up your content and make your readers and Google hungry for more, focus on creating authentic human experiences.

For websites, this demands three essentials.

Uniquely written, reliable and people-first content

SEO elements according to best practices

Functional and visually appealing web design

AI for SEO

Bots like ChatGPT can be incredibly useful for marketing materials such as emails, sales letters, social media and speeches. But 100% AI-written content is ‘rubbish’ for SEO. Your web copy might be new, but it won’t be original or have that competitive edge. Quality content with backlinks is what ranks.

The SEO value of content depends on how informative, useful, credible and engaging it is. High-performing copy must also be optimised for your target keyphrases.

AI tools can find and categorise keyword opportunities and generate content that ranks – much quicker than any SEO specialist or copywriter could. But using AI to automate the process puts your content and SEO strategy at risk.

Because anything less than reliable damages your brand and hurts your online presence.

A New Era of Search

We’re almost living in The Jetsons era. But instead of flying cars, we’re seeing robots make mind-blowing breakthroughs in medicine, healthcare and agriculture.

The online world is no different, and there’s no denying web search is changing.

Just recently, Microsoft and Google have jumped on board with AI-assisted search similar to the conversational bot ChatGPT. But Google is no stranger to AI search technology. Its machine-powered algorithms have been helping to process search results for years, for example, RankBrain and BERT among others.

These algorithms use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to scrape answers from websites, process search queries and determine what results appear and how.

SEO still remains relevant, no matter how sophisticated AI gets. AI search simply creates new opportunities the same way Google’s Knowledge Graph, Alexa and Siri did when they first came out.

Penalties for AI-Generated User-Content

With AI, you have an indispensable tool for automating the time-consuming parts of copywriting like research, outline development and generating ideas.

But everyone who uses AI tools such as ChatGPT and Jasper is using the same language model. This can generate similar content for related topics and causes copy to be flagged if it’s too similar to published materials. The secret behind this is advanced pattern recognition.

When you use AI tools to generate content, it’s very similar to article spinner tools that shuffle words and use synonyms to spit out copy. This doesn’t provide value to your audience and steps wildly on plagiarism’s toes.

Google says AI falls under auto-generated content which is against guidelines and can lead to a manual penalty, harming your website and business. On the other hand, the company also has a policy of rewarding high-quality content and will continue to prioritise people-first copy, whether humans or machines produce it.

It would be unlikely for Google to completely ban the use of AI content anyway, when they use AI so heavily themselves.

Robots or not, there’s no way to beat search algorithms outside of creating reliable, human-first content. And Google is smart at detecting (and penalising) AI-generated words.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="600" height="480" src="https://thelittletypewriter.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/AI-tools-AI-for-SEO-1.png" alt="A white robot hand using a spoon to collect keys from a computer keyboard from a bowl.

How to Avoid Ending up in Digital Landfill

If you’re using 100% AI-generated copy for web pages, blog articles, product descriptions or any other form of digital content, it’ll be flagged as rubbish by Google. And your site will be dumped into the digital landfill – a place where profits crumble and customer engagement dissolves.

The best way to avoid compromising your SEO and hurting your brand is to use AI as a foundation – not the final (or only) solution.

There are three options to consider as a business owner who needs web copy:

Hire an experienced SEO copywriter who has the expertise to write for your business – whether we use our own unique creative brilliance or embrace AI transparently in one or more processes

Learn to work with AI automation but don’t use it to spin hundreds of articles or manipulate the algorithm – and make sure you’re upfront about where and why you’re using AI

Write all of the content yourself, which isn’t ideal for time-poor business owners or someone without SEO copywriting experience

Tips to Maximise the Benefits of AI

I’ll let you in on a little secret.

Digital marketing isn’t all conscious planning and creative brilliance. There are many tedious tasks we can speed up, automate and improve with AI if it’s used ethically and responsibly. AI tools might not be able to replace the skills and real-world experience of copywriters, but it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be used in digital marketing and the SEO industry.

Here are a few processes that can be streamlined with AI:

Spark content ideas

While creativity can’t be forced, AI tools can be useful for stimulating ideas. It’s still important to work with a copywriter who can flesh them out with human skill and find a unique angle to further research into, plan and write. And you should never publish topics or ideas as they come.

Research

Extensive research is an enormous part of marketing, especially SEO and copywriting. AI chatbots can help simplify the process, summarise PDFs and create content outlines, providing a solid starting point to dive deeper into.

From an SEO perspective, most conventional keyword research tools already use an AI input, helping to crawl and analyse large amounts of data in far less time. But it’s the experience of an SEO copywriter that solidifies the right information into creative web copy that converts.

Editing drafts

Every piece of content you publish must be grammatically checked. No one is perfect after all, and typos can fall through the cracks when double-checking information, even by the smartest of people.

Grammar-checking programs such as Hemingway Editor and Grammarly are powered by AI-enabled algorithms. I’ve been using both to tweak and polish my copy for years. In this case, it could make sense to test an AI tool for streamlining the editing process. A skilled human proofreader will have to refine the final output.

Automate helpful content

Not all use of automation and AI-generated content is spam. There are types of helpful content, such as transcripts and weather forecasts that many publishers automate with AI to save time. AI tools can also be useful for Google Ads and social media captions. Human editing and fact-checking are still required.

With or without AI, you should never publish any content without asking yourself is it helpful or spam? Was it written with purpose or does it add to the noise?

More importantly, does it offer a solution to your audience’s problems?

My Creative Copywriter Bias

There is a lot of concern surrounding AI technology stealing jobs. In many industries it already has, so it’s normal to have some anxieties around it. But I don’t believe robots for writing or online search is something to be anxious about.

AI isn’t here to take over, it’s designed to help. And believing robots might replace copywriters is like thinking computers will replace writers. Can a tool replace the person who uses it? Maybe for menial tasks. But writing content that creates connections is far from menial.

As predicted, AI has evolved into imaginative and highly-intelligent machines. But that emotional human component is still integral for content marketing and those important parts of people’s searching and buying journeys only a human can relate to.

Key Takeaway

While AI-generated content may seem efficient and affordable, it lacks these key drivers of creative thinking and personal perspective that are needed for creating content that converts.

AI technology is always learning and will only get more sophisticated. Instead of trying to beat it, why not find ways to ethically embrace it?

As an SEO copywriter, it’s my job to provide value through helpful content that creates connections. I’ve been doing that for many happy businesses for more than 10 years – and I’ll always strive to give more value than a bot can.

Robots may not be able to harm you (yet), but don’t let them harm your words, your website or your brand either.

Disclaimer:

There are elements of AI I use in my work regularly:

AI-powered online searches each time I perform research for articles, websites and client research

Keyword research tools that use AI inputs, which help me find suitable keyphrases to target and content gaps to fill

Hemingway Editor and Grammarly for minor edits that refine final blogs

CoSchedule’s Headline Studio – a tool that uses AI to analyse headlines against key parameters and provide a headline and SEO score

This is a guest article written by Sophia Young who recently quit a non-writing job to tell stories and paint the world through her words. Sophia writes about business trends, sustainable marketing, travel and fashion.

You may have noticed that businesses nowadays are doubling down on their cybersecurity measures. There’s a very good reason for this, and it’s all in the data.

One thing we know about cybercrime is that it will not stop anytime soon. In Australia alone, the Australian Cyber Security Centre received almost 76,000 reports of cybercrime over the 2021—2022 financial year. That’s an increase of nearly 13% from the previous financial year!

An even more shocking statistic is that 60% of Australian SMEs don’t survive a data breach or cyberattack. Furthermore, the average cost per cybercrime report has increased to more than $39,000 for small enterprises, $88,000 for medium-sized businesses, and more than $62,000 for major corporations. What we can learn from these numbers is that companies should never take cybersecurity lightly.

Whether you’re operating a growing mom-and-pop shop or already scaling your business to international levels, below are some compelling reasons why cyber safety and security should be one of your top priorities today.

1. Cybersecurity Protects You From External Attacks

While primarily initiated for financial gain, the motivations for cyber assaults can be as varied as the perpetrators themselves. However, whether they are industrial spies, hacktivists, or cybercriminals, these bad actors all have one thing in common: they’re becoming quicker, more clever, and more covert with their attacks.

The answer to this? A strong cyber security posture, of course! This can assist your company in identifying and responding to the techniques, tools, and entry points being exploited, such as:

IoT gadgets

Domain name system attacks

Cloud and remote services

Artificial intelligence

Supply chain disruptions

Malware

2. Cybersecurity Protects You Against Internal Threats

What’s a cybersecurity system’s weakest link? Humans.

Insider threats can originate from current or former employees, third-party vendors, or even trusted partners, and they can be accidental, negligent, or downright malicious. Aside from these, internal threats can also stem from the following:

the rapid expansion of remote work

personal devices used for business purposes

IoT devices in remote locations

There’s good news, though! By proactively monitoring networks and managing access, these threats can be identified and dealt with before they become costly incidents.

3. Cybersecurity Protects You From Losses

If your company’s data is stolen, sensitive information from clients and employees may end up in the wrong hands. These situations always end up disastrous for the business, often resulting in harsh penalties and strict legislation. Once this happens, the law will make you accountable for failing to take cybersecurity precautions.

In the case of hacking and theft, recovering data can be pretty expensive in terms of your time and money. When left unresolved, this can cause enormous business deficits and even drive them to bankruptcy.

These significant monetary losses would be impossible to recover from and could only be avoided through cybersecurity. You can start small by preventing ransomware from corrupting important files and working your way up.

4. Cybersecurity Protects Your Reputation

One of the ways you can ensure customer retention is by strengthening brand loyalty. However, this will be difficult if your business experiences data breaches or any other kind of cyberattack. This will hit your reputation the hardest.

While competitors strive to win over the customer’s trust, an organisation dealing with cybersecurity issues might lag. As a result, the trust you’ve built with your customers may weaken.

You can flip these situations around with robust cybersecurity measures. Technologies like network security and cloud security can strengthen authentication, which can pave the way for future projects and expansions.

5. Cybersecurity Improves Employee Productivity

The tricky thing about technology is that, as it advances, so do the ways for cybercriminals to breach data.

Viruses will have adverse effects on networks, operations, and workflows, which will lower overall productivity. As a result, your company will experience downtime, bringing your operations to a standstill.

One of the best benefits of cybersecurity is increased business productivity through virus scanning, enhanced firewalls, and automatic backups. To maintain maximum productivity, educate your employees about email phishing, scams, suspicious links, and other questionable activity.

6. Cybersecurity Prevents Website Crashes

SMEs often host their website. So, if your system ever gets compromised, your website will also crash.

This may result in a lengthy website loading time, which will annoy your customers and cause revenue loss, missed opportunities for communication and transactions, and decreased confidence.

Cybersecurity guarantees defence against unexpected damages and protects long-term accessibility.

7. Cybersecurity Helps Maintain Customer Trust and Confidence

One significant reason why cybersecurity is so crucial to growing your business is that it solidifies trust and credibility among your customers.

Keep in mind that it’s easy for customers to switch to competing businesses if they see even just one wrong move. But if you have a track record of protecting customer and business information, your customer base is bound to grow.

Customers are becoming more and more cautious about data malpractices. So if you’re after long-term client relationships, make sure to create solid data privacy practices.

At this point, cyber security is not an option. It is a necessity and a responsibility. Having cybersecurity policies and procedures in place shields your business, employees, and customers from cyber-attacks.

While there is no way to completely protect against cyber threats, taking a proactive approach can greatly assist in mitigating risks and safeguarding valuable data.

Adding another person to your organisation is no easy feat – especially if you’re still a startup company. However, if you’re keen on taking the route to success, it’s crucial to learn that the right talent will be an investment.

For instance, don’t undermine the value a professional SEO copywriter will bring to your business table. You may think hiring one will be unnecessary; but here are several signs that you need one for the team:

You’re Not Well-Versed in Developing Content

Writing an effective copy that would bag prospects requires tremendous talent. More than this, it requires practice, time, and finesse, something you haven’t developed due to being engrossed in other business factors. Worry not though, because even though you’re not well-versed in copywriting 101, you can hire someone that is.

SEO copywriters know the way around search engines; they can help your brand grow through their expertise in Google algorithms. They can analyse keyword density and use different tones, styles, and prominence to improve your page’s rankings. They also study the needs of your target market and figure out how to speak their language. If no one on your team has this particular skill set, then hiring an SEO copywriter is the right way to go.

Your Competitors are Killing the Game

It’s true that the only records you should break are those that you made yourself. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t check on your competitors’ progress, especially if you’re aiming for the top. If your business continues to stay on the low while other brands are killing it, you may want to check what you’re doing wrong.

For instance, you don’t have a professional SEO copywriter on your team to create well-written content that wows people.

They’re essential for building and establishing your brand, especially during this modern era. With their out-of-the-box thinking, ranking search engines won’t be a far-fetched dream. SEO copywriters understand the difference between structured and unstructured data, making your site more optimised. They’re experts that know how to attract the right clientele while helping you top your previous sales records.

Your Leads are Going Downhill

If you’re creating content but still find little to no improvements in sales, then it’s high time you hire a professional copywriter. They’re the key to crafting posts and copy that attract prospects and boost your website’s conversion. These writers are skilled in SEO strategies, so they can help you improve your page’s search engine ranking. This is a must if you want your business to thrive and survive in the modern digital era.

SEO copywriters use the right combination of words and hashtags that helps your company appear in more places. They also know how to craft eye-catching headlines that attract and resonate with possible leads. This will lead to more engagement, with you entertaining plenty of curious customers eager for their next purchase.

You’re too Booked to Craft Amazing Copy

It’s no secret that business owners have plenty of things on their plate, from manufacturing and production to day-to-day operations. Developing an amazing copy on top of all these may prove impossible, especially since it takes a lot of time. Fortunately, you can avail the help of a professional SEO copywriter to do the work for you. In fact, this is a must if you want to take your brand to a whole other level.

Aside from taking the worries of brand promotion off your mind, a copywriter for business can help you resonate more with people. They can repurpose old promotional materials for more effective engagement, thus leading to better ROI.

SEO copywriters can also participate in more of your content marketing strategies. Of course, you have to give them fair pay, but no worries because they’re worth it.

You Still Can’t Find Your Own Identity

A company must have an established identity to stand out in a saturated industry. If you struggle with having one, it’s time to get a creative SEO copywriter for your business. Not only will they help you find your brand voice, but they’re also capable of showing the world why your products or services are awesome. They can reveal your company’s uniquity and noble proposition, a much-needed edge against competitors.

Remember: it won’t matter how much of a genius your products are if you can’t communicate them to your target audience. You need a pro-writer on your side to get the right mix of edgy and cool to advertise your business. They’re also your go-to if you need someone to craft a formal copy for your serious corporate partners.

You Have No Clue How to Communicate With Your Audience

There are plenty of people endowed with a keen nose for doing business. However, not many are blessed with the talent to create high-quality, engaging content. That’s why copywriters exist – their way with words ensures that you can communicate with your target audience. With them under your payroll, you can effectively relay your brand message to the world.

They can help you figure out how to start establishing your company in the digital media setting. You’ll gain more traction and traffic by boosting your page’s search engine rankings. This leads to plenty of people discovering what you can offer, later availing of your services to satiate their curiosity.

You’re Not Hooking the Right Market

If there’s one thing most business owners would agree on, it’s that targeting can be difficult. Of course, talking with viewers and prospects can be considered child’s play. However, the challenge lies in connecting with people that’ll turn into high-quality leads. This predicament can be solved by hiring a professional copywriter to optimise your website and brand.

The right one will know how to handle information – which ones to provide and which are meant to save for later. Through this, attracting the right target base with a high conversion rate will be much easier.

Similarly, those not the right fit for your brand will know how to stay away. This will save you plenty of time and effort as you won’t have to chase trails that lead nowhere.

In Conclusion

Professional SEO copywriters can benefit your company in significant ways. Most times, hiring one can be your ticket to launching successful products and services. They’re also the key to reviving your presence in the digital world, dominating search engine rankings once more. As such, you should consider whether you need one for your team’s growth.

Estimated reading time: 5.5 minutes

Helpful content that’s focused on your audience and their needs has never been so important. Earlier this month, Google finished rolling out its ‘Helpful Content’ update. This means if your website’s content isn’t in sync with the new algorithm, it could be penalised.

According to Google, websites that get penalised can take months to recover.

The update ensures users see more relevant content that answers their search queries. Original, helpful content by humans for humans, rather than primarily for search engine traffic.

Not only will this help weed out unoriginal content that doesn’t offer any value, but it enables a positive impact on those business owners who publish educational content. Those who aren’t writing for people first will see their search rankings significantly drop.

The best (and only) way to create helpful content is to prioritise your audience and potential customers. Here’s what you need to be doing.

1. Always Write for Humans

The golden rule of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is to write for people first, Google second. Unfortunately, there are still many businesses that don’t follow it.

It’s why Google is taking more steps to combat unconstructive, dissatisfying content. Previous updates such as E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness) and YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) all prioritise valuable content written by experts.

This latest initiative continues to give authority to websites that better connect people to the helpful information they seek.

People-first content will always be rewarded.

Not just by Google, but by your audience and potential customers too. When you understand your audience and their needs, you can write content that attracts and engages more like-minded people – the people you want to do business with and who’ll benefit from your products/services.

2. Publish Authentic Information

Authentic content must be written by industry experts. If you’re not writing from first-hand knowledge or experience, then you shouldn’t be publishing. Business owners who are experts in their industry, or creative SEO copywriters who are experienced in the subjects they’re writing about are the best people for valuable copy.

Make sure you write and publish:

Topics you fully understand

Content that demonstrates authority, expertise and trust

Content that leaves readers feeling they’ve learned enough about a topic

A substantial, comprehensive description of the topic

Don’t use clickbait titles

3. Write Original and Relevant Content that Solves Problems

Are you writing original content that solves your user’s query?

The best type of content is written with purpose. It’s created to inform and help the reader by answering their questions or guiding them to the next step. How-to guides and FAQ articles are particularly great for this, as long as they’re informative without being long-winded.

Keep these essentials in mind:

Use content to inform, rather than for rankings

Focus on your niche to keep content relevant to your business

Use AI content intelligently – excessive automation like article spinners are harmful to your site

Never copy or rewrite other content

Audit Your Content

Over the next few weeks, you can expect to see a major shift in the search results. If you already prioritise people-first content written for your audience, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

The best way to prepare yourself is to review and remove unhelpful content from your website.

This includes:

Content that’s primarily written to attract search engines, rather than made for humans

Unclear, unhelpful and unoriginal content

Content that promises to answer a question, but doesn’t

Content that leaves readers needing to search again to access better information

Google’s update will be especially valuable in improving results for online education, shopping, arts and entertainment, and tech-related content.
